Faber Music joins IMPEL

Faber Music - one of the most influential publishers of contemporary classical music in the world – has joined IMPEL.

Founded in 1965 as a sister company to the distinguished book publisher Faber And Faber, Faber Music is now one of the leading independent publishers of classical, contemporary, media, and printed pop and educational music.

Besides repertory works by Vaughan Williams, Arnold, Holst and Britten, Faber Music’s performance catalogue features internationally recognised house composers including George Benjamin, Thomas Adès, Oliver Knussen, Jonathan Harvey and Anders Hillborg.

The company’s established British core (Colin and David Matthews, Julian Anderson, Nicholas Maw, Tansy Davies) is complemented by a strong Australian connection (Peter Sculthorpe, Carl Vine and Matthew Hindson), and a growing catalogue of young talent (Francisco Coll, Martin Suckling and Tom Coult).

Faber Music is proud to publish Carl Davis’s huge catalogue of works, including his many and renowned scores for great films of the silent era; it publishes the lyric interest in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats”; and it provides agency and publishing services to some of the UK’s leading film and TV composers. The company is increasingly involved in publishing classical/concert works by composers who are also active in the film/TV or pop worlds. Apart from Davis, such composers include Danny Elfman, Howard Goodall, Jonny Greenwood, John Harle, Keaton Henson, Sir Paul McCartney and Anna Meredith.

Faber recently launched its Faber Alt brand, under which it represents ‘alternative crossover writers and artists’. The roster includes the indie bands Boy Azooga, Mesadorm, Penelope Isles and Phoria; folk artist Jon Boden; BC Camplight (the stage name of American singer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Christinzio); and Swiss DJ, producer and composer Pablo Nouvelle.

IMPEL Collective Management is the international collective licensing agency representing digital publishing rights. It is 100% owned and controlled by its members, which include respected independent publishers such as Bucks Music Group, Beggars Music, Reservoir Music, Kassner Music CTM, ABKCO and Truelove Music.

The IMPEL membership represents a diverse collection of works recorded by many of the world’s biggest artists past and present including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Dua Lipa, David Bowie, Ray Charles, Rihanna, Beyonce, Calvin Harris, Elvis Presley and more.

Faber Music’s Director of Commercial Rights and Business Affairs, Richard Paine, said: “Joining IMPEL is a bit like being adopted by a particularly friendly and warm-hearted family. But this is a family with a passionate belief in the power of the collective, which we share, and that seems to be very well serviced by the amazing people at SACEM, who have impressed us immensely.”

IMPEL CEO Sarah Williams said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Faber into the IMPEL collective. Not only are we proud to be representing their amazing catalogue but also we appreciate the opportunity of working with some really excellent music industry executives such as Richard King and Richard Paine. IMPEL is all about pooling rights, knowledge and experience for the common good and we know that Faber will enrich our collective endeavours.”
